Find money savings in and around your home
Conscientious consumers desire to stretch their dollars as far as they can and save money anywhere they can in their budget. One way of saving money each month, is by lessening the cost of your electricity usage. With the cost of electricity going up each year, it’s important to be aware of ways to decrease your utility bill. Along with changing your air filter every 30 days, here are some money saving tips.
Turn The Lights Off
It may sound simple, but turning lights off when you leave a room or the house, really saves electricity. Teach your children to turn lights off and the importance of saving electricity.
Close Your Doors
Opening doors is obviously necessary, but closing them immediately is a must if you want to save on electricity. Even the small amount of time the doors are open can affect the temperature in the house and cause the heat or air conditioner to come on.
Fill In Cracks And Holes
Make sure there are not any holes or cracks in your window and door jambs. Use weather stripping to seal off holes around your outside doors. If you feel a draft coming in the windows and doors, you are letting heated/cooled air out of your home and wasting money.
Close The Curtains
In the warmer months, it’s a good idea to keep the curtains closed during the hottest part of the day. This will keep your home from heating up and causing the air conditioner to work harder to cool the house down. The opposite applies for the winter months. Letting direct sunlight in will help warm the house.
Unplug Your Appliances
If there are any small appliances you do not use on a daily basis, unplug them. There’s no reason for them to be plugged in and running up your electricity bill. The same goes for chargers. When you are not charging your phone and other electronics, unplug the charger.
In your quest to bring your electricity bill down, hopefully these tips will help. The environment and your pocket book will thank you!
