Wire transfers1 are a fast and easy way to send money from your account to individuals and businesses. You may wish to use a wire transfer to pay a large invoice, send money to a family member, or to complete a real estate transaction. However, because wire transfer payments are typically irreversible, they are commonly used in fraud schemes.
With INSOUTH Bank Wires1, you can send money to both personal and business accounts in the United States and 200+ countries. INSOUTH Bank charges a $25 fee for domestic wires and $75 for international wires. Other fees may apply.
Domestic wires are typically sent the same business day if they are submitted by 3:30pm CST. International wires are typically sent the same business day if they are submitted by 2:30pm CST. However, depending on your recipient's country, delivery times may vary.
We offer digital wires through our eCorp service. If you would like more information regarding this service, please contact your local INSOUTH branch or contact our customer service department at (866) 348-3614.
Send a wire: - In Foreign Currencies2 - In U.S. dollars
Tip 1: Remember that wire transfers are like sending cash.
Wire transfers allow money to move electronically from one bank account to another. Because they process quickly and function much like cash, wire transfers typically cannot be reversed once they are sent. After the funds are delivered, they become the property of the recipient and the transfer is often final. For this reason, fraudsters frequently target wire transfers as a preferred method of payment.
Unexpected wire transfer requests:
Be cautious if you receive an unanticipated request for a wire transfer. Do not act until you have independently verified that the request is legitimate.
Investment scams:
Avoid offers that guarantee returns or promise “no risk,” especially involving cryptocurrency, gold, or foreign real estate. Use extreme caution when wiring money overseas.
Last-minute changes to real estate wire instructions:
Homebuyers are frequent targets. Scammers may impersonate your real estate agent, mortgage broker, or escrow officer and send “updated” wiring instructions designed to steal your down payment or closing funds.
Bogus “problems” or account issues:
Never wire money to resolve a supposed issue with your account. INSOUTH Bank—and all legitimate financial institutions—will never ask you to wire funds to fix an account problem.
Overpayment schemes:
If someone sends you a check and then insists you wire back the “excess,” the check is almost certainly fake and the request is a scam.
Romance scams:
Scammers often build trust by pretending to be the perfect partner. They claim they “can’t wait to meet you,” but need your financial help first. These emotional appeals are a common tactic used to steal money.
Unexpected wire transfer requests: Always be cautious if you receive an unexpected appeal for a money transfer. Do not take any action without carefully verifying that the request is legitimate.
Go slow and stay cautious with any unexpected communication. Scammers often impersonate trusted institutions or individuals to pressure you into sending a wire transfer. They may even spoof caller ID so their number appears legitimate. Always verify the authenticity of any request before taking action — and if someone urges you to act immediately, do the opposite. Hang up, ignore the message, and take the time to contact the organization directly using a verified phone number. A few extra minutes of caution can protect you from costly fraud.
Because wire transfers are typically irreversible, a mistake — or a scam — can mean you may not be able to recover your money.
Even when you have a valid reason for sending a wire transfer, it’s important to use extra care.
For example, if you're wiring funds for a real estate closing or a business transaction, always verify the recipient before sending any money.
Before you wire funds, contact your mortgage consultant, title company, or business partner using their official, published phone number. Do not call a new number or respond to an unexpected email that includes updated wire instructions.
One of the most important ways to protect yourself from wire fraud is to always verify wire instructions by phone. Never rely solely on email or text messages — both can be hacked, spoofed, or manipulated by scammers. If you receive wiring instructions electronically, take the extra step to call the intended recipient using a phone number you know is legitimate (not the number provided in the message). This quick verification ensures you’re sending money to the correct person or organization. It may feel like an inconvenience, but it’s one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent potentially devastating financial losses.
If at any point you feel unsure or suspicious about a wire transfer request, stop and ask for help.
Consult with your bank or another trusted financial advisor to confirm whether the request is legitimate. Taking this one simple step can prevent extremely costly mistakes.
